Here at Safe N Sound Inc., we want to help you keep your home safe. To do that, we offer a range of high-quality security systems such as alarms and cameras. However, we also want you to know that there are many low-tech ways to keep your home secure that provide effective protection as long as you use these methods consistently. In this article, we’ll go over three of the most important of these methods to help you take charge of your residential security.
- Upgrade Your Locks- One effective way to improve your residential security is to upgrade the locks on your windows and doors. We recommend using locks with Grade 1 (the highest security rating) deadbolts to give you the best possible protection. In addition, we encourage you to always lock your doors when leaving the house–you might think that this goes without saying, but a surprising number of people do not follow this simple step.
- Cover Your Windows- Another low-tech residential security solution is window shades and other coverings. Choose window treatments that are sheer enough to allow you to see outside, but opaque enough to prevent those on the street from seeing in. This will make it harder to tell if anyone is home or not, making potential intruders less likely to target your house.
- Trim Your Shrubs- A third low-tech way to increase your home’s security is to prune back any shrubs or other greenery that is tall enough for someone to hide behind. Anything you can do to make potential intruders have to work harder to get into your home will act as a deterrent, as most burglars look for the easiest possible targets.
